JOB DESCRIPTION
The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at building, highway and heavy construction projects. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.
Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Control traffic passing near, in and around work zones.
Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations and compact and level earth to grade specifications.
Performs materials handling and storage.
Load, unload and identify building materials, machinery and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations per project plans and specifications.
Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
Performs manual work in preparing areas for construction.
Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in construction projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The position is required to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects and uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimbed coordination. The position requires full mobility of the back, arms and legs in the course of performing this job. The employee must have excellent stamina.
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is exposed to wet, cold, heat, quickly changing conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat.
