The Paint Shop Foremen directs, supervises, schedules and coordinates painting work related to maintenance, repair, renovation, and replacement by supporting Facilities Services work on all campus buildings.

General Statement
The MSU campus has over 5,000,000 square feet of buildings which, in addition to traditional classrooms, include teaching and research labs, sports and recreation facilities, commercial kitchens, retail spaces, and other specialty square footage. The Campus Maintenance section of Facilities Services is responsible for maintenance, repair, renovation, and replacement of buildings, grounds, equipment, and utilities for all university departments.
The Paint Shop Foremen directs, supervises, schedules and coordinates painting work related to maintenance, replacement, remodeling, and support of basic maintenance work on all campus buildings.
The Paint Shop Foreman needs a broad and detailed understanding of surfaces including preparation and applicable coating options to address safety and durability while meeting aesthetic expectations. This knowledge spans the full process from site preparation through coating application to suitability to final use. Work includes interior and exterior painting, refinishing furniture and cabinetry, and patching of surfaces including vinyl, plaster and sheetrock. The Shop is also responsible for specialty floorings, and road striping and safety markings.
Duties and Responsibilities
Schedule, coordinate and supervise all painting work related to maintenance, repair, renovation, and replacement work for MSU buildings, grounds, equipment and utilities including material and supply procurement.
Responsibilities include:
Assigning and prioritizing work for the Painting shop.
Coordinating work with other trades, work groups and campus stakeholders.
Inspecting projects for completion and workmanship.
Ensuring efficient workflow including work scheduling and timely availability of stock and non-stock materials and supplies.
Actively participate in all aspects of Painting shop employee hiring, training and development.
Monitor workload both short- and long-term and make recommendations to Campus Maintenance Manager on staffing, equipment, tools and/or improvements to proactively address workload and maintenance trends.
Recommend staff, equipment, tools and/or procedural improvements to proactively address workload and maintenance trends.
Respond to questions and concerns from campus customers.
Ensure timecards are completed and accurate.
Ensure materials are available in a timely manner and accounted for properly.
Manage tasks/projects in CMMS /AiM system by assigning, coordinating, updating and closing out Work Orders assigned to the Painting shop.
Manage records in CMMS /AiM system.
Attend and participate in required training for the use of personal protective equipment and comply with requirements for use of employer provided equipment.
Coordinate plan and specification review.
Incumbent will attend and participate in required training for the use of employer provided equipment.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
High School diploma or GED , plus successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship program, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Progressive work experience providing journey-level maintenance painting services
Demonstrated competence organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities and workloads.
Experience establishing and maintaining productive relationships and communicating with a diverse range of internal and external constituents, such as faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the public.
Demonstrated experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail software. Microsoft Office and Outlook are preferred. (Please list software used and types of documents produced.)
Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System ( CMMS ).
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated experience in a supervisory capacity.
Experience with AiM, AssetWorks, CMMS system.
Experience providing service in a large organization.
Demonstrated experience providing a high level of customer service.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. (If successful candidate possesses a valid out-of-state driver’s license, must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.)

Physical Demands
Must be able to: perform physical labor including the ability to transport up to 50 pounds including while ascending stairs, working from ladders, scaffolding, and swing stages, performing overhead work, and safely and effectively operating a wide variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Working conditions include exposure to temperature extremes, inclement weather, fumes, dust, noise, heights, power tools and equipment, and research-related activities.
