Schedule: Full-Time

Reports To: Paint Lead

NOTE: This position will work the night shift, which works Monday - Thursday, 4 - 10 hour shifts with Friday off.

The Paint Helper assists other Paint Team Members and preps paint jobs by sanding and cleaning prior to paint applications, as outlined by the Paint Lead.

Essential Functions / Responsibility:

  • Prepare project for paint by removing grease, dirt, paint, or rust from surfaces.

  • Remove accessories, such as chrome or mirrors, from vehicles and mask other surfaces with tape or paper to protect them from paint.

  • Learn to paint extra-small to small-sized parts and meet industry paint standards for quality.

  • Select and operate the correct spray gun for the material being applied and correct paint.

  • Apply the industrial automotive paint finished on various types of materials.

  • Apply rust-resistant undercoats, caulk and seal seams; apply a sealer to properly dried vehicle finish.

  • Monitor painting operations to identify flaws and correct their causes.

  • Complete finishing processes, such as buffing and waxing.

  • Operate lifting or moving devices to access materials needed or areas to be painted.

  • Cross-train and assist in other departments as needed.

    Basic Knowledge Desired:

  • Understand the significance of Nomad’s Core Values and display a demonstrated willingness to apply them.

  • Be knowledgeable about commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the automotive painting field.

  • Be knowledgeable about machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Be knowledge about raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

    Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is occasionally required to sit.

  • At times, the employee will be required to work at heights up to 20 feet.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything heavier than 50 pounds will require two people to lift / carry.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors.

    Working Environment:

  • The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. There are times when working outside will be required.

  • The employee must have the ability to work from heights at the ground floor up to 20 feet from the ground on ladders or platforms of varying sizes.

  • The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time, which will be provided.

  • The employee will be exposed to a variety of household/commercial chemicals that will require the employee to follow company rules/regulations outlined by that SDS.

  • All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times in manufacturing areas. The employee will be required to wear provided safety eyewear throughout the performance of their duties.

  • When painting, insulating, undercoating, etc., this position must wear a respirator and may do so only after they have been fitted with a respirator and successfully complied with the respiratory protection program.

    Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of documented work experience in auto body and automobile painting.

  • An apprenticeship and/or formal training in the application of automotive paint preferred.
