The Compensation Principal develops, implements, and administers compensation programs. The Compensation Principal provides strategic advice and guidance to functional team(s). Highly skilled with broad, advanced technical experience.

  • Works cross functionally to set Compensation strategy with a focus on attracting and retaining talent

  • Partner with internal compensation partners, to ensure positioning across compensation programs is aligned with defined strategic objectives

  • Looks to the future to help develop opportunities to advance Compensation strategy and operating model. For example, the use of Artificial Intelligence

  • Works with Benefits/Associate Well-being Principal to help develop a holistic Total Rewards strategy

  • Focuses on the Associate Experience and overall culture, engagement, and change impact of compensation strategy to the enterprise

  • Creates a positive brand for Compensation through internal and external partnerships. Including opportunities for Compensation to co-author articles, speaking engagements, external recognition (e.g., best practices)

  • Examples of external partnerships: Mercer, PayScale, Trusaic, Deloitte, EY, Worldatwork, AON, etc.

  • Explores opportunities to support development, training, education, and impactful communications

  • Explores Technology and efficiencies to advance the strategy. For example, a Total Rewards platform

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of compensation experience and subject matter expertise ( base bay, incentives, all Compensation aspects)

  • Ability to establish and develop strong partnerships and connections with key senior stakeholders and internal clients across numerous functional areas - including business segment leadership, Strategy, HR, Finance, Communications, Legal, among others

  • 5 or more years of record of success in thinking deeply through complex topics/business problems, then developing and successfully implementing well thought through plans

  • Proven expertise in problem resolution, including strong data and analytics skills to enable common linkages to be identified and connected

  • High level of execution and ability to influence, critical thinking

  • Highly organized and self-driven with an ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Previous experience working within a team-based atmosphere with shared responsibility

  • Experience navigating in a large company with a complex and heavily matrixed organizational structure

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably a Master's Degree)

  • Prefer consulting background ( Mercer, Deloitte, etc)

  • 5 or more years of formal Leadership experience

  • 5 or more years of Total Rewards experience

Work-At-Home Requirements:

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates must meet the following criteria:

  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership

  • Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$136,200 - $187,400 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
