The Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division is looking for I/E Technician/Operators located in Laurel, Montana. The I/E Technician/Operators is responsible for ensuring all instrumentation/electrical equipment is operated and maintained at minimal cost and downtime. Promotes safety and environmental awareness. Ensures a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all designated work areas. Oversees daily operation of the power plant, plant fuel systems, and operation of power switch gear and synchronizing switchgear.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the I&E Technician / Operator will support the business objectives by focusing on the following areas:

  • Ensure all safety equipment is utilized and is available in the work areas. Understand and comply with safety policies and procedures. Ensure the work permit system is complied with. When appropriate submit safety suggestions to improve overall plant operations. Review and make recommendations on all safety suggestions submitted through your position.

  • Must have knowledge of the operating principles of control and measurement devices including pneumatic and electric liquid level, PLC’s, interface level, static pressure, and differential pressure controllers. Monitor vessel fluid levels and pressures, report anomalies, and adjust controls as directed.

  • Ensure calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair/overhaul activities on instruments, controls, PLC’s and electrical equipment are carried out in accordance with company policy, manufacturers recommendations and good engineering practices.

  • Keep and update all equipment histories to estimate equipment utilization and efficiency. Must have a fundamental knowledge of general power generation. Primary duty is to monitor all plant conditions and parameters to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the station.

  • Must know the basic methods of operation of various types of pumps, engines and fuel systems. Monitor and operate the above equipment; start/stop, load/unload and determine performance under various conditions. Must be able to recognize abnormal sound, vibrations and potential safety problems and take appropriate action to prevent damage to equipment, downtime or allow a serious safety hazard to develop.

  • Provide daily reports to the Shift Supervisor in on-going project or daily work.

  • Must be familiar with all aspects of the company safety and environmental policies and practices. Must adopt work practices which are consistent with the letter and spirit of these policies and participate to the fullest degree in programs aimed at increasing personal safety and environmental awareness.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2-year technical degree in Instrumentation and Controls and 3 to 5 years’ experience in the area of electrical/instrumentation and controls or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Some college and completion of four-year apprenticeship program.
